I Sing Because I’m Happy…aka Haters Gonna Hate

I don’t know why my family thinks it’s funny to video tape me when I’m working with my earbuds in. I work better while listening to music, not to mention it just makes me feel good and takes my mind off of the mundane tasks of cleaning. Apparently when I put my music on however I tend to sing along with the artists and I might add pretty much at the top of my lungs. This must be why they film me and find it so humorous.

Every now and again my wife and I help clean convenience stores which have been newly constructed. On one such trip, I was wiping down all the walls removing the excess dust and debris all while listening to a little Journey on my phone. A few minutes later I walked over to get another rag and the construction manager Robby asked me if I’d done very good the night before. Puzzled I asked him to repeat himself, which he did but I still was confused by his question and asked him about it. He grinned and said, “At the karaoke bar, did you do very good there last night?” I replied I hadn’t been at any karaoke bar and he said, “Well maybe you shouldn’t sing here either.” Okay, so yeah it was funny and I did stop singing, at least out loud.

I can’t help it, I like to sing. Music has been a large part of my life ever since I was a little kid. I remember standing in church singing songs from the hymnal and listening to my dad’s baritone voice singing harmony to all the songs. I love to harmonize more than anything thanks to my dad. I love music and the way it motivates, inspires and drives me. I’m not ashamed of my singing voice either, although my wife did say one time she thought she heard a dying cat and it turned out to be me singing in a falsetto voice.

How about you, does music move you? While I vacuum, I sometimes will start to dance around, the really big problem with doing this, is I’m a lot like Dudley the nerdy little guy from the movie Wild Hogs, the music moves me…but it does so ugly. I’m probably not going to stop singing, dancing and acting the fool when it comes to listening to my music. Who knows though, I may become an internet superstar one day when my family posts a video of me.

Micah posted this of me a few months back; David singing.
