Happy Birthday America!

The year is 1776 and the grim faced men seated around the document each had their own thoughts about the coming conflict which would broaden the fledgling colonies taking them from subjects under a monarch to captains of their own destiny.

It has been 240 years since our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence declaring freedom from England and its oppressive laws.

I am thankful to the men and women who stood their ground against what they felt was wrong in search of a better world. This quote from the Declaration really moves me:

“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future.”

It makes my heart swell with pride to think of all they endured so you and I could enjoy this freedom today.  I wonder what I am willing to do in order for future generations to have a good life in America? It’s food for thought to be sure.

Happy Birthday America, and thank you to all who have bought us this freedom we enjoy.
